The tour develops through the ancient historical and artistic sites of the early centuries of Christianity, highlighting the passage from Paganism to the Christianism while visiting major churches and Catacombs of Rome. Along the path of ancient pilgrims, start the tour from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore a patriarchal basilica dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The basilica is also known as Basilica Liberiana after the founder, as Santa Maria della Neve (Our Lady of the Snow) after a miracle associated with it; and as Santa Maria ad Praesepem from the relic of the crib (presepio). The exterior of the Cathedral complex show a Romanesque bell-tower, which is the highest in Rome with its 75 metres. Santa Maria Maggiore was fully restored and renovated in the 18th century - the facade and most of the interior decorations date from this period. Proceed the tour end up with a visit of the Catacombs: The Catacombs are the ancient underground cemeteries, used by the Christian and the Jewish communities, above all at Rome. The Christian catacombs, which are the most numerous, began in the second century and the excavating continued until the first half of the fifth.
In the beginning they were only burial places. Here the Christians gathered to celebrate their funeral rites, the anniversaries of the martyrs and of the dead.
During the persecutions, in exceptional cases, the catacombs were used as places of momentary refuge for the celebration of the Eucharist. They were not used as secret hiding places of the early Christians. This is only a fiction taken from novels or movies.
After the persecutions, especially in the time of pope Saint Damasus (366 - 384) they became real shrines of the martyrs, centres of devotion and of pilgrimage for Christians from every part of the empire.

As well as the gladiatorial games, other public spectacles were held there, such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. Ancient tradition has it that St. Peter's Basilica was built at the place where Peter, the apostle who is considered the first pope, was crucified and buried; his tomb is under the main altar. Private half-day Rome Basilica’s tour
For an additional + $20 per person

The tour develops through the ancient historical and artistic sites of the early centuries of Christianity, highlighting the passage from Paganism to the Christianism while visiting major churches and Catacombs of Rome. Along the path of ancient pilgrims, start the tour from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore a patriarchal basilica dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Santa Maria Maggiore was fully restored and renovated in the 18th century - the facade and most of the interior decorations date from this period. The Church preserves magnificent 5th-century mosaics. Proceed towards San Giovanni in Laterano, passing by the Holy steps, that believers identified with the ones of Pilate's palace, ascended by Jesus, to reach St John in the Lateran, the cathedral of Rome, mother of all churches in the world. The Scala Sancta or Holy Stairs consists of twenty-eight white marble steps, now encased by wooden steps, located in a building which incorporates part of the old Lateran Palace, located opposite San Giovanni Laterano.
According to tradition, the staircases were part of the praetorium of Pilate in Jerusalem, hence were sanctified by the footsteps of Jesus Christ during his Passion. Medieval legends claim that the Holy Stairs were brought from Jerusalem to Rome about 326 by St. Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. San Giovanni in Laterano, is also known as "Cathedral of Rome and of the World."
Built by Constantine the Great in the 4th century, it was the first church to be built in Rome. It contains several important relics, a lovely 13th-century cloister and an ancient baptistery. The two-storied portico that makes up the facade of the basilica dates from the 18th century. It is from here that the Pope gives his benediction on Maundy Thursday. Large statues of Christ and the saints, also dating from the 18th century, top the façade. The central bronze doors are Roman originals from the Curia (Senate House) in the Imperial Forum. At the left end of the portico stands a Roman statue of Constantine the Great, which was found in the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian.
Proceed towards San Paul outside the Walls: a patriarchal basilica dedicated to St Paul, near the site of his tomb. After his execution, St Paul was buried in a cemetery at this site, about two kilometres from the city walls by the road to Ostia. A shrine, or cella memoriae, was soon erected, and many early Christians came to venerate the Apostle. The first church here was, built by Emperor Constantine and consecrated on 18 November 324. It was a small church, built over the grave of St Paul. Between 384 and 386, Emperors Valentinian II, Theodosius and Arcadius demolished the church and built a large basilica. The original basilica (4th century) was destroyed by fire in 1823 and was rebuilt. Only a few of the original fragments remain. Of note is the marble canopy by Arnolfo di Cambio (1285), which is over the high altar.

Private half-day Rome Jewish Ghetto & Synagogue tour
(Not valid on Saturdays)
For an additional + $40 per person

A tour developped into the Jewish district and its charming narrow streets. The tour starts with a visit to the pictoresque "Isola Tiberina", a boat-shaped island which has long been associated with healing. The island is located in the southern end of the Tiber River. It is approximately 270 m. long and 67 m. wide. The island has been linked to the rest of Rome by two bridges since antiquity, Cestio Bridge raised in 46 b. C. by Lucio Sestio, and Fabricio bridge known in the Middle Ages as "Bridge of the Jews" for its proximity to the Jewish Ghetto of rome. You will have a chance to learn from your guide the numerous legends connected to the origins of the islands, that served as site of cult for various Gods; the island was mainly dedicated to the medicine God Esculapio and houses today one of the most important Roman hospital. Crossing the bridge, the tour reaches the Jewish Ghetto, one of the most ancient Jewish community in Europe, with its beautiful medieval and renaissance buildings. In 1555 Pope Paul IV confined all the Jews of Rome to a small area which became known as the Ghetto, taking its name from the Jewish quarter of Venice. High walls were built around it and a curfew was imposed. For three centuries, over 4,000 people lived and worked on this tiny scrap of land. They built high tenements on the river bank, but during the frequent floods the lower floors had to be evacuated. Only after the Unity of Italy in 1870 did the Jews finally acquire equal rights. Soon afterwards, most of the old buildings of the Ghetto were demolished. The old synagogue, housing the Cinque Schole where different Jewish rites were celebrated, was left standing, but not for long: it was destroyed by a fire in 1893. Now the area is occupied by a school, a splendid new synagogue (inaugurated in 1904) and other buildings dating from the turn of the century. Villa della Reginella is the only perfectly preserved spot of the original Ghetto; The visit of the Ghetto continues towards the Portico of Octavia, site of the fish market. Of great interest is the Theatre of Marcellus, one of the biggest and best preserved theatres of Ancient Rome, the church of St Angelo in Pescheria and finally the magnificent Synagogue, , the largest in Europe, built between 1901-1904 on one of the four plots of land that were recovered from the demolition of the Ghetto's most dilapidated sections. The Roman Jews expressed a desire to have their temple erected between the two greatest symbols of Rome's recently re-found liberty: the Campidoglio - Rome's Town Hall, with its nearby monument to Victor Emanuel II, and the Janiculum Hill, scene of the Risorgimento's fiercest fighting, and thus the site of Garibaldi's monument. Furthermore, they wanted the Temple to be large enough to be visible from all the city's highest points. Due to its particular architecture, inspired by Assyrian and Babylonian concepts, The Synagogue results as a truly eccentric building. For Roman Jews, the Synagogue is not merely a place of prayer but an essential cultural center with a museum exhibiting the history of Jewish life in Rome. It is also a reference point for all Jewish religious and political bodies.

Includes half-day guided tour with English speaking tour guide, private minivan and entrance fee at the Synagogue.

Private half-day Angel & Demons Rome tour
For an additional + $260 per person

Enjoy a tour that will lead you through the misteries and hidden symbols of the Path of Ilumination described in the famous novel Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Our guide will take you on a nice stroll through the city center discovering the Altars of the Science, described in the book as the enigmatic symbols used by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in his sculptures, representing the four elements - earth, air, fire and water, to decode the trail that leads to the meeting place of the ILLUMINATI in Rome.
The tour will start from the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo, notable augustinian Church that shelters numerous paintings and masterpieces like Caravaggio's Crucifixion of Peter and the Conversion on the way to Damascus; the Church shelters in the Chigi Chapel, Bernini's sculpture of the Habbakuk and the Angel, that represent one of the four markers in the novel story (earth). Proceed towards Saint Peter's square sheltering the second marker described in the book, (air—west ponente) sculpted by Bernini, another secret symobol hidden as religious artwork, in order to avoid the wrath of the Vatican and secure the secrecy of the Illuminati. Discover the nice Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria. This church, begun in 1605 as a chapel dedicated to Saint Paul, designed and completed by the early Baroque architect Carlo Maderno, suffered a fire in 1833 and required restoration. The masterpiece sheltered in it is the Cornaro Chapel, that hosts Bernini's Ectasy of Santa Teresa. The statue represents, as per Saint Teresa description, the moment of her vivid vision of an angel piercing her heart with a golden shaft, causing her both immense joy and pain. The flowing robes and contorted posture abandon classical restraint and repose to depict a more passionate, almost voluptous trance. This great masterpiece, is another of the four markers (fire) highlighed by Dan Brown to decode Illuminati secret messages. The tour continues to the Pantheon, wrongly interpreted at the beginning of the novel, as location to trace the trail of the Path and the murderer. The building, which was originally a temple dedicated to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion of Ancient Rome is circular with a portico of three ranks of huge granite Corinthian columns under a pediment opening into the rotunda, under an imponent dome that has a central opening in the middle (oculus), the Great Eye, open to the sky. Proceed towards Piazza Navona. The piazza follows the plan of an ancient Roman circus, the 1st century Stadium of Domitian where the Romans came to watch the agones ("games"): Piazza Navona is the pride of Baroque Rome. It has numerous sculptural and architectural creations; among the others, the wonderful Bernini's Fontana dei Fiumi, listed by Dan Brown as one of the Altars of Science that pays tribute to one of the classical elements (water). The fountain occupies the center of the large oval piazza and means to depict allegories for the four great rivers in the four continents recognized by the Renaissance geographers: the Nile in Africa, Ganges in Asia, Danube in Europe, and Río de la Plata in America. The tour ends up with a visit inside the Mausoleum of Hadrian, usually known as the Castel Sant'Angelo, a towering cylindrical building initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building, located in the rione of Borgo spent over a thousand years as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum.
Legend holds that the Archangel Michael appeared at the top the mausoleum, sheathing his sword as a sign of the end of the plague of 590, thus lending the castle its present name and the realization by Raffaello da Montelupo of the marble statue of Saint Michael holding his sword that surmounts the Castle.
The Papal state also used Sant'Angelo as a prison; Giordano Bruno for example, was imprisoned there for six years. Executions were made in the small interior square. As a prison, it was also the setting for the third act of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca from whose ramparts the eponymous heroine of the opera leaps to her death.
Dan Brown's locates in Castel Sant'Angelo, the secret lair for the Hassassin and is the last existing church of the Illuminati. Enjoy your guide's lecture on the long wall, about 25-30 feet tall, which runs parallel to the colonnade of Saint Peter's. It looks like a fortification, similar to the ones built in ancient times around most cities, to protect their boundaries, but it conceils a walkable gallery that runs through the wall, leading to Sant'Angelo Castle from the Vatican.
Romans call this wall Passetto ("small passage). The Passetto is currently closed to the Public but can be seen from the outside.

Includes full-day guided tour with English speaking tour guide, private minivan and entrance fee Sant’Angelo Castle.
The tour includes visit of the most important location mentioned in the book Dan Brown.
