Itinerary Map
Ports of Call
San Diego, CaliforniaSan Diego is not just the home of its world-famous zoo. Not only did Golf Digest name San Diego one of its top 50 destinations, Sports Illustrated once dubbed it "Sports Town USA." The downtown cityscape, beaches, national monuments and unique attractions — such as Legoland California — make San Diego a destination worthy of any travel itinerary. And, of course, there's always the zoo!
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta has all the amenities of a classic beach resort: surf, sand and sun. But it also offers so much more. Perfect honeymooners, families and seniors alike, Puerto Vallarta offers sport fishing, golfing, horseback riding, hiking and whale watching. Boasting mountains, jungles, beaches, rivers and waterfalls, this port is completely different from any other destination in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is a modern destination that remains loyal to its traditional Mexican roots. And that's just scratching the surface.
Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Mexico
Although Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are right next to each other, they couldn't be more different. Ixtapa is a lively, modern infrastructure comprised of luxury resorts and residential areas residing on beautiful beaches along the Pacific coast. A photo stop at Playa Quieta, where you will be able to view the magnificent island of Ixtapa, is a must. Zihuatanejo, an Indian word meaning "river of the yellow water," is a small bay and resort discovered by tourists in 1940. At the time, the only access to the village was by the sea. Your visit to this small town will provide you with some of the most breathtaking sights, including the beautiful Sierra Madre mountains as a backdrop.
Fuerte Amador, Panama
Fuerte Amador, situated at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal is a manmade peninsula extending out into the Pacific Ocean. This one-mile causeway connects four small islands. There are shops and restaurants on a large marina that provides a panoramic view of Panama City's impressive skyline and serves as the home for the Smithsonian Institute of Tropical Research.
Salaverry (Trujillo), Peru
To the north is the "Lordiest City" of Trujillo, founded in 1535 and till rich in ornate colonial detail. At its edge, far older and long abandoned by the Chimu Indians, sits the eerie adobe metroplois of Chan Chan.
Lima (Callao), Peru
The "City of Kings" has a tempestuous history - history that may best be discovered by visiting any one of the many museums throughout Lima. But if shopping is more your style, head to upscale districts of San Isidro and Miraflores or try your hand at bartering with one of the local street merchants. Optional tour of the ancient Incas Ruins of Machu Picchu available.
Manta, Ecuador
Manta, Ecuador is your link to genuine Panama hats (yes, they're made here, not in Panama), and the white-washed, tile-roofed ambience of Quito, a World Heritage site. The city was once devoted to artistic vision, and has developed its own distinctive fusion of Spanish technique and Native imagination that is alive and well.
Acapulco, Mexico
Acapulco, which is virtually synonymous with luxury, is a place where the rich and famous come to escape. Take the scenic highway for a striking panoramic view of the beaches and mountains, and note the beautiful homes and lush gardens as you pass through Las Brisas. And make sure you take time to see the thrilling cliff divers plunge into the turbulent waters of Le Quebrada.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Championship golf courses, world-class deep sea fishing and incredible diving opportunities have transformed Cabo San Lucas, a once sleepy fishing town located on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, into one of the most popular resort destinations in Mexico. Rolling sand dunes and hidden coves dot a countryside ringed by some of the most famous and often-photographed rock formations in the world.
Hilo, Hawaii
You'll be intoxicated by the fragrant orchids and antharium which fill the air. This is Hawaii's second largest metropolis, yet it remains a quaint city of Victorian homes which overlook a half-moon bay. With its magnificent Japanese Yedo Garden and a half-hour walk through verdant tropical forest opening into the awesome beauty of Akaka Falls, Hilo is one of the most scenic tropical cities in the Pacific.
Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
Renowned for its beautiful beaches, superb scenery and surfing-friendly waves, Lahaina, Maui, is a true paradise on earth. Lush verdant jungles, cascading waterfalls, fragrant eucalyptus groves and white-sand beaches are all waiting to be explored. After a long day on a sun-soaked beach, enjoy a cool drink at one of the historic local taverns.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Imagine spending all day and all night on gorgeous Honolulu. You'll need time to take in this beautiful island with its pulsating nightlife, world-class dining, perfect beaches and quiet coves. Stroll the fabled beaches of Waikiki under the protective watch of the ancient volcanic profile of Diamond Head. Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, a 42-acre living museum of the many cultures of the South Pacific. And be sure to stop off at the historic USS Arizona Memorial, dedicated to those who died at Pearl Harbor.
Nawiliwili, Kauai, Hawaii
Kauai, Hawaii's most beautiful island, beckons you. Crystal pools, magnificent waterfalls, stunning sunsets and sparkling beaches - you can find them all in the Garden Island of the Pacific. Feel the genuine hospitality of Kauai, its warm and welcoming people, and share in the true spirit of Aloha.
Kona, Hawaii
Located along Hawaii's western shore, where the slopes of Mauna Loa and Hualalai meet the sea, the Kona Coast is a region of endless lava fields and golden Pacific sunsets. The clear waters are perfect for diving, snorkeling, and deep-sea fishing.
Westbound Crossing of International Date Line
The International Date Line is an imaginary line on the earth's surface, at approximately the 180th meridian (LONGITUDE). Traveling east across the line, takes the traveler back one day; traveling west, takes the traveler forward one day. Without the International Date Line travelers going westward would discover that when they returned home, one day more than they thought had passed, even though they had kept careful tally of the days. This first happened to Magellan's crew after the first circumnavigation of the globe!
Fanning Island, Kiribati
Christmas Island
On Christmas Eve, 1777, Captain James Cook was charting the South Pacific when, to his amazement, a huge coral atoll appeared (later to be confirmed as the largest atoll on earth). What could he name it but Christmas Island? Remarkably, the lives of the friendly villagers have little altered over the intervening centuries. Men still fashion outrigger canoes by hand, harvest copra and fly cast the flats for bonefish; women weave mats of supple pandanus leaves; children run and laugh without care.
Bora Bora, Society Islands, French Polynesia
James Michener's Bali Hai comes to life on Bora Bora—a Society Island ringed with a shimmering blue lagoon. Put on your pareo and take in the lush mountain view from Bloody Mary's bar, relax at the beaches at Matira, and ponder the ancient stone altar of Marae Aehautai.
Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia
The colors of the Tahitian marketplace—intense reds, golds, yellows, pinks, and greens—are as seductive now as they were for Gauguin when he painted dark-skinned women with frangipani blossoms tucked behind their ears. Although none of his paintings are on display at the Gauguin Museum near Papeete, much of the master's life is captured in the exibits which provide insight into the genius and suffering behind his work.
Rangiroa, French Polynesia
