After a stellar season that saw them go 103-59, the New York Yankees dispatched the Twins 3-0 in the ALDS, and Angels 4-2 in the ALCS and finally, on November 4th 2009, they beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in game 6 of the 2009 World Series to capture their 27th World Series Championship. Behind the stellar performance by 2009 WS MVP Hideki Matsui - .615 Avg, 3 HR and 8 RBI – and a gritty performance by Andy Pettitte, who earned his all-time MLB record 18th postseason win (2nd of the 2009 World Series), the Yankees returned to glory for the first time since 2000.
